MASH stands for Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware, published by AASHTO.The MASH is currently the most authoritative and stringent universal benchmark globally for evaluating the performance of road safety hardware.TL‑4 (Test Level 4) is the high‑level crash test standard for roadside safety hardware such as guardrails, bridge rails, median barriers, and work zone protection systems.
The purpose is to evaluate whether safety hardware can safely contain, redirect, and decelerate errant vehicles, including passenger cars (1100C), pickup trucks (2270P), and heavy trucks (10000S), while protecting vehicle occupants and avoiding secondary crashes.
